What significance these numbers have or how they are chosen, I do not know at this time. Most recent manufactured HK firearms (within the last 10-15 years or so) have specific numeric prefixes to their serial numbers that denote models by caliber and type. I am considering purchase of a HK P7 M8 with a date code IE. HK Date Codes HK pistols use a two letter date code to identify the year of manufacture.
